Taichung is the city about halfway down the west coast. It's got about 3 million people and it's Taiwan's second city.
I started my hiking adventure there, and had a couple of days to spare, exploring the place.
Here are a couple of pictures of the centrally located Taichung Park.
And this is an interesting one: The Taichung Broadcasting Bureau, which has a scenic little public park attached to it. The building now houses a museum. It was built in the 1930s for the sole purpose of providing the Japanese in Taichung with a live broadcast of the coronation of Emperor Hirohito.
Below: the Maple Garden, an attractive new waterside park a few kilometres north west from the main station.
