Oxley and Evans wandered up that way in 1817 and 1818. They discovered the Castlereagh River among other things, and they would have enjoyed a fine view of the Warrumbungles as they approached them from the west.
We enjoyed it too the other day, as we headed north on our great edge-of-the-NSW-Outback expedition of 2015, which was to take in exotic towns such as Lightning Ridge, Bourke (as in 'back of...'), Narromine, Nyngan, Gulargambone, and Dubbo no less.
