Extreme postcodes: 2753

Richmond's probably only extreme in that it's at the extremity of its train line. And that's what took me there - I'd never travelled on that line before (and not many others were doing so that day either). I'd had in mind to get  off at some of the small stations along the way - Vineyard, Mulgrave, or Clarendon maybe - and explore whatever these places had to offer. But on looking out the window, it really didn't seem like there'd be anything much to explore in any of them. At Vineyard, in fact, I couldn't see any evidence of a  vineyard, let alone any houses or shops, not from the train at least.

So Richmond it was. Here are a few pictures. More about the place at  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond,_New_South_Wales

Dicksonia Forest Ravine

From hipster Newtown to a remote wilderness ravine in the northern extremities of the Blue Mountains National Park! This is about as different as it gets.

Dicksonia antarctica is the tree fern species found in south eastern Australia. There are similar species in other parts of Australasia and in South America too - as a consequence of the continents having both being part of the giant continent Gondwana a few hundred million years ago.

I enjoyed my visit yesterday to Dicksonia Forest Ravine. It's a scenic and atmospheric place. Very few people know it's there, and I'm not going to tell you exactly where it is, except that it's a long drive and an arduous bush-bash!

Note how the vines twirl themselves around the trees, and some of the ancient ferns have drooped over to touch the floor, only to put down roots and take off again - looking like giant caterpillars walking along the forest  floor.

I'd like to thank my fellow expeditioners from All Nations Bushwalkers, and the pioneer explorers of the Bush Club (whose prior exlorations and intelligence made this trip possible).

Newtown

Sometimes I've walked around a
suburb and had a hard time finding very much to photograph. It's been tempting at times to report that the only special feature of the place is that there isn't really one. You can't use that tactic too often.

There's absolutely no problem finding things to photograph in Newtown though. It's always a visual feast. (As well as a gastronomic one.)
